Khanom Power Plant, within EGCO Group, was awarded the Thailand Team of the Year – Energy at the Asian Management Excellence Awards 2025 in recognition of its success with the “Khanom Model” initiative and implementation. This model focuses on building a strong foundation for the communities and society through career promotion, natural resources and environmental conservation, self-healthcare, and educational promotion, all aimed at fostering community economic development and harmonious relationships between the power plant and surrounding communities. The regional award, presented by the Asian Business Review Magazine, honors Asian organizations with exceptional performance and further highlights Khanom Power Plant’s commitment and meaningful work to create a positive, sustainable impact on society and the environment.

Mr. Nares Chookird, Managing Director of Khanom Electricity Generating Co. Ltd., said, “Khanom Power Plant is honored to be named the Thailand Team of the Year at the Asian Management Excellence Awards 2025. This prestigious recognition is a testament to the cooperation and dedication of our executives, employees, staff members, and all stakeholders in making the “Khanom Model” a success and earning regional recognition. It also reflects our value of “teamwork” and our intent “to be a model power plant in environmental conservation and co-exist harmoniously with the community.” This award not only fills us with pride but also serves as a clear indication that we are on the right path with our CSR efforts and our work is in line with community well-being. It motivates us to continue developing impactful and beneficial projects for our communities.”

Khanom Power Plant has been operating in Khanom District, Nakhon Si Thammarat, contributing to power security in Southern Thailand for the past 40 years. It also initiated and has implemented the “Khanom Model” with key activities and projects as follows:

  • “Smart Farm” Project: An organic vegetable farm that serves as a learning hub for people from nearby communities to explore how technology can be integrated into organic farming for food safety. The Tha Kham Self-Sufficiency Farming Community Enterprise, a model community, has been part of this project since 2020. Through this project, it has successfully reduced expenses, increased income, and improved the quality of life by becoming a producer, consumer, and seller of organic products.
  • “Khao Mai - Pla Mun” Activity: In collaboration with its partners, Khanom Power Plant encourages the exchange of agricultural products at cost between communities from different regions. The project connects communities in the Northeast, with a demand for organic processed seafood, to fishing communities in the South, where there is a demand for organic rice. This initiative fosters higher economic and food security while offering an effective solution to low agricultural product prices.

  • Participation in the Thailand Mangrove Alliance: Khanom Power Plant has been actively involved in initiatives to mutually conserve and develop sea and coastal resources usages, as well as biodiversity, to mitigate the impacts of Global Boiling and support the sustainable livelihoods of local fishing communities.
  • “Khanom Learning Center”: This project promotes energy and environmental conservation knowledge among the youth, communities, and the general public. The Khanom Power Plant Unit 1, the floating power plant that has ceased commercial operations, has been repurposed as a learning center. Since its opening in 2019, the learning center has welcomed over 80,000 visitors, with approximately 85% of them being from educational institutions. Post-visit surveys revealed that 95% of visitors were highly satisfied with the exhibitions. The learning center has also hired local staff, developed human resources, and fostered relationships within the local networks, creating a value of over THB 4.5 million a year. This initiative generates new job opportunities, enhances individual skills, strengthens community pride, and encourages the protection of local values for future generations.
