EGCO Group holds Official Opening Ceremony of EGCO Cogeneration SPP Replacement Power Plant
Electricity Generating Public Company Limited or EGCO Group organized the Official Opening Ceremony of EGCO Cogeneration SPP Replacement Power Plant at EGCO Cogeneration Company Limited, Map Kha sub-district, Nikhom Pattana district, Rayong province, on 30 April 2024, to thank all parties who involved in the development and construction, and all the supports for the success of the project.
Mr. Kanchai Thepworachai, Deputy Governor of Rayong Province, presided over the Official Opening Ceremony, together with Mr. Gumpanart Bumroonggit, EGCO Group’s Senior Executive Vice President – Operation Management and Acting President, and Mr. Takashi Jahana, Managing Executive Officer of J. Power, as the co-chairman of the ribbon-cutting moment. At the same time, Ms. Niramarn Laisathit, Director and Senior Executive Vice President in charge of Corporate Banking of Bangkok Bank Public Company Limited, and Mr. Wanchai Ratinthorn, Chief Executive Officer and President of TTCL Public Company Limited, also joined and witnessed the ceremony.
The other distinguished guests were representatives from the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), the Provincial Electricity Authority, J-Power Generation (Thailand) Company Limited which is the co-owner of the project, a lender group, an EPC contractor group, industrial customers, local government authorities, and local communities in Mueang Rayong district, Ban Khai district, and Nikhom Pattana district.
To support the communities around the power plant, EGCO Cogeneration took this opportunity to include local quality products in snack boxes and beverage sets at the event. Those products were refreshments from Paping Coffee Shop, shrimp dumplings from Chimcha Chaitung Shop, Thai crispy pancakes from Pa’Ed Lung’Nop Khanom Thai Shop, and fried crab rolls from Pa’Meow Sayun Shop, the recommended community product in Rayong.
On this special occasion, EGCO Cogeneration presented the traditional dance performance “Fine Arts of 4 Regions" by elementary students from Wat Krachet School, which is located in Mapkha sub-district and close to the power plant. This performance is to celebrate and congratulate the opening of EGCO Cogeneration SPP Replacement Power Plant.
Mr. Gumpanart Bumroonggit, EGCO Group’s Senior Executive Vice President – Operation Management and Acting President, said that EGCO Cogeneration SPP Replacement power plant, owned by EGCO 80% and J-Power 20%, has commenced its commercial operation on 28 January 2024. EGCO Group immediately recognized revenue from the project. Using the latest and advanced technology, the new power plant reduces natural gas consumption per unit by 15% compared to that in the former power plant, which means better energy utilization efficiency, minimized environmental impacts, promotion of the operation and growth of industrial customers, and stronger power security of the country.
EGCO Cogeneration SPP Replacement power plant, a gas-fired cogeneration facility with a net capacity of 74 megawatts, has replaced the former power plant. It is located in Rayong Industrial Park, Map Kha sub-district, Nikhom Pattana district, Rayong province, which is a strategic area with high electricity demand. The new facility supplies electricity to EGAT under a 25-year PPA for SPP replacement scheme with a contracted capacity of 28 megawatts, while the rest of the electricity output and stream from electricity generating process are sold to the industrial users in the Rayong Industrial Park and nearby areas.
