Khanom Learning Center receives “Kinnaree” Award 2023 Certificate – Learning Tourist Destination from TAT
Khanom Learning Center within EGCO Group was granted a certificate from the “Thailand Tourism” Award 2023, known as the “Kinnaree” Award, in the Tourist Learning Destination category presented by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). The achievement highlights Khanom Learning Center’s strength and potential as the travel destination and a learning center in the South of Thailand that uses advanced technologies to provide information on electricity generation, energy, and environmental preservation. The learning center itself is friendly to communities and the environment and has been efficiently operated under high sustainable management standard.
Mr. Thepparat Theppitak, President of Electricity Generating Public Company Limited or EGCO Group, said that EGCO Group was pleased with the achievement of Khanom Learning Center, Khanom District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. It is the country’s first and only floating power plant in Thailand and recognized as a major tourist learning destination in the South of Thailand. Kinnaree is a prestigious award presented every two years to leading tourism business operators in recognition of high quality of sustainable services. The learning center has been providing information and knowledge as well as creating correct understanding about electricity generation, energy, and preservation of the environment and communities surrounding the power plant. Advanced technologies and tools have been used to make the learning process more fun for all visitors, which inspires life long learning. The operation of the learning center underlines EGCO Group’s mission to be a good corporate citizen who deeply cares for the betterment of the people and the environment.
Situated in Khanom District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, Khanom Learning Center has been opened since 2019. After Khanom Power Plant Unit 1, which is Thailand’s first and only historical floating power plant, stopped commercial operation, EGCO Group’s turned it into the learning center, providing comprehensive information and exhibitions about electricity, electricity generating process, and how a power plant can live together in harmony with communities, and the environment. Through the seven zones of permanent exhibitions, children, people in nearby communities and the general public can have fun learning more about the history of electricity, electricity generating process, environmental preservation, and how power plant and community can live together in harmony. The objective is to promote participatory learning through interesting modern presentation techniques. The learning center has also adopted the virtual exhibition to increase the public access and organized Science Week activity every year to inspire young people more.
Khanom Learning Center is opened from Tuesday to Saturday, from 09.00-16.00 hrs. (closed on Sundays, Mondays, and public holidays).
